The amount of gratitude I have to say I am alive and a mother to a beautiful little boy is immense, would be an understatement. We have been blessed with so many divine miracles in the last 4 days that I can literally see the angels & the Creator's hands working within our physical plain.
Friday morning, Michael and I went in for our 38 week checkup. We had an ultrasound scheduled with the appointment and little to our knowledge then, that is atypical. I had an off feeling when they were doing measurements, but chalked it down to just not understanding what is really happening in screenings. When the check up portion of our visit began my OB/Midwife asked us if there was a reason we had scheduled an ultrasound. We told her it was just on the books, and what we were scheduled to do. She said "wow that's really fortunate because ultrasounds at 38 weeks aren't usual, but we did find that his abdominal circumference is measuring in the 1 percentile and in cases such as this we recommend early induction." She explained a lot of things and we essentially had to decide if we were going to schedule the induction, or wait till 40 weeks and hope the baby would survive low odds. We chose induction so baby boy could be out and start on breast milk to get his lil tummy growing. They wanted to induce next day and have us checked in that evening.
Michael and I spent the next few hours finishing up our hospital bags and gathering what we would need for the next 2 days and then headed to the hospital for our 5 o'clock check in. Everything was going smoothly, we had lots of nerves with our little boy coming 2 weeks earlier than planned but we were so excited to meet him the next day.
My induction got started with a folley balloon and I was dilated to 3 cm by 7 pm, and it came out on first tug check which is pretty quick. They started pitocin immediately after and I was having contractions all throughout the evening. Around 8:30 am, it was time to break my water which went smoothly. The contractions continued to increase and became quite intense very quickly but I had to have them continue to increase over the next few hours. I was fully dilated around 1pm, started to pushed, and Leucos was born 28 minutes later at 1:33 pm.
There were complications with tearing which they tried to fix in the delivery room, however I was struggling with the pain of stitches so much and was starting to lose a lot of blood. I was told that I was going to have to go into surgery to have the tear repaired so they could give me a spinal tap for the pain. I asked about anesthesia since I do not do well with the idea of awake surgery, and they said I could but the chances of not waking up were higher than the sedatives I was going to have. I forwent the anesthesia and as they rolled me out, I watched Michael hold our new baby and told them I loved them and promised to be back soon. Michael and Luc were alone in the delivery room for about 2 ½ hours while the doctors did their work on me in the OR. The surgery was successful, and ended up be a blessing in disguise as I had suffered a rare 4th degree tear {vinternal vaginal & rectal} which they reconstructed completely, and my body had handled the sedative well. I was rolled back to the delivery room, however when they brought me back in, my BP dropped suddenly & sharply to 66/83. They pushed a bottle of albumin and aerated another that was on for a few hours till I fully recovered and was able to move up to the postpartum floor. We stayed in recovery till late Monday evening and began navigating our healing journey. We had our discharge order yesterday and went home around 10pm.
Many loved ones came to see us and I am feeling so blessed for each and everyone of them. Luc has been amazing with feeding, my mature supply is already in! Michael has been the best father, husband and support partner, and we are loving being this little dudes whole world. We definitely had angels, spirit guides and Mother & Father with us the last 4 days, and through the entire pregnancy. We love what joy this little star already shines and would love for friends and family to meet him. Please feel free to check in!
Welcome to the earthside of life Leucos William Ace Clay, you are so loved already ✨
